About Ask Around
Who we are
Wendy Stone is the Editor at Ask Around. She also answers the phone, writes the letters and keeps it all running. These daily miracles happen in a sunny office in Ottawa's Glebe neighbourhood, where Wendy "Asks Around" all the time.
The A Team
The Ask Around web site was developed and built by Earle and Dagne at Foil Media.
Intellectual Property matters are handled by Odutola Law Chambers.
Gamepower Systems keep the computer hardware running smoothly.
Why did we build Ask Around?
Because we are passionate about good work and good service.
The world is full of highly skilled tradesmen and women, businesses that offer outstanding service, amazing craftsmen and wonderful people who are always willing to help. You will find these stars right in your neighbourhood when you Ask Around.
How do we operate?
We help our members find the best help first. When you can find the right local service quickly and easily, everyone benefits. Some basic principles to guide us towards this end.
Local is better
Ask Around aims to be a part of your "100 mile diet". By helping you find the best local services and businesses we strengthen communities and reduce carbon emissions.
The internet gives us access to a whole world of information and resources, but how helpful is a plumber in Pittsburg when you are in Pleasant Park? Ask Around for local solutions.
Ask Around respects your privacy. We will not share your email address or personal details with anyone...ever.
We take all possible precautions to safeguard your personal information, both online and offline.
If you receive communications from us that are not welcome please let us know.
Ask Around will be a carbon neutral business. To reduce our carbon footprint we:
We use power contributed to the grid by renewable resources. Natural Gas Heating keeps our fingers warm in the long Canadian winter and Bullfrog Power keeps the fans running in the summer.
We are looking for a reliable source of carbon credits to offset our minimal gas-powered mileage.
Our paper is (mostly) made from 100% post consumer fibre. We recycle consumables energetically and encourage our members to do the same.
We want to add questions about environmental responsibility to our recommendation process, and need your input on how best to do this? Send us your ideas.
